Mumbai welcomes India's largest EV charging hub as Tata Power and TPEM open a green energy powered mega facility at the airport on World EV Day Tata Mumbai

Mumbai marked World EV Day with a major leap in electric mobility as Tata Power and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) inaugurated India’s largest electric vehicle charging hub at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The facility is located within The Leela Mumbai Hotel premises near Terminal 2 and has been designed to offer round-the-clock accessibility while being powered entirely by renewable energy.

The hub features eight fast DC chargers, each with a capacity of up to 120 kW, and 16 charging bays, making it capable of handling multiple vehicles simultaneously and reducing waiting times for EV users. This scale of infrastructure is expected to support not only private car owners but also ride-hailing services, fleet operators and hotel guests who require reliable and quick charging access at one of the city’s busiest transit points.

Executives from both companies highlighted the strategic importance of the project. Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, described the hub as a step towards integrated green mobility and confirmed plans to roll out similar large facilities across other Indian cities. Shailesh Chandra, MD of TPEM and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, called it a milestone that strengthens the EV ecosystem and makes adoption easier for a wider audience.

This mega hub adds to Tata Power’s growing network of more than 1,000 charging points across Mumbai and over 5,500 across India, supported by 1.4 lakh home chargers and over 1,200 bus charging stations in more than 630 towns and cities. The company aims to scale this network to 10,000 public chargers and 7.5 lakh home chargers by 2030, underscoring its long-term commitment to clean mobility.

Ease of use is also a key focus. The new hub is integrated with the Tata Power EZ Charge app, already used by over 400,000 EV owners across the country. Tata.ev customers will soon be able to connect through the iRA.ev app, gaining added perks such as priority charging and discounts of up to 25 percent. With India already recording more than 1.4 million EV sales in 2025 so far, this facility is a timely boost to ensure charging remains accessible, convenient and sustainable.
