Starting August 22, 2025, electric four-wheelers and e-buses in Maharashtra will enjoy toll-free travel on Mumbai’s Atal Setu, the Pune Expressway, and the Samruddhi Mahamarg under the state’s new EV policy. The exemption applies to both private and government vehicles, marking a major step toward reducing costs for EV owners and boosting sustainable mobility.

This move creates direct savings and incentives for EV adoption at scale. With more than 43,000 EVs already registered in Mumbai, the toll waiver is expected to accelerate adoption while supporting the government’s broader decarbonization goals. Alongside fast-charging infrastructure expansion and proposals to extend waivers to more highways, Maharashtra is positioning itself as a frontrunner in clean transportation.

Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar and Minister Pratap SarnaiK confirmed that extending toll-free corridors remains a top priority under the 2025 EV policy. By 2030, the state aims to reduce PM 2.5 emissions by 325 tons and cut greenhouse gases by 1 million tons, cementing Maharashtra’s leadership in sustainable mobility.
