Lucknow Turbocharges Electric Mobility with New Charging Hubs & EV Regulations UP

Lucknow, the UP capital, is accelerating its electric vehicle journey by installing dozens of new EV charging stations across public parks and enforcing rules to support EV-friendly housing. The Lucknow Development Authority has announced plans to add 27 public charging stations throughout the city at popular parks and malls, making it simpler for drivers to recharge as they go about their day.

The municipal push includes mandating that 20% of parking in all new group housing projects be reserved for EVs, complete with charging infrastructure. This is part of updated building bylaws known as the Awas Bandhu initiative, aimed at encouraging sustainable transport choices from the ground up.

Lucknow’s electrification efforts form part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader EV vision, which currently boasts more than 4 lakh registered electric vehicles, led overwhelmingly by e-rickshaws. The state government is also rolling out a comprehensive EV policy and plans to install 320 charging stations across 16 cities, including 27 in Lucknow, under public–private partnerships.

This combination of infrastructure expansion and forward-looking rules is setting the stage for lasting growth in India’s EV ecosystem making it easier to switch to clean energy transport in everyday life.
