The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has started work to make three more bus depots – Nand Nagri, Wazirpur, and Sukhdev Vihar EV-ready, strengthening the city’s push toward a fully electric public transport system. Each depot will get high-capacity charging infrastructure and smart energy systems within the next four months, at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore per site.

According to DTC officials, this expansion will accommodate the next batch of electric buses, expected to join Delhi’s fleet in the coming year. Once complete, these depots will help the capital manage one of the largest e-bus networks in the country, supporting Delhi’s goal of making 80% of its public buses electric by 2028 under the Delhi EV Policy 2020.

At present, Delhi operates around 2,000 e-buses under DTC and cluster services, with plans to add another 3,000 by March 2026. The new depots will feature advanced load management systems and energy-efficient designs, enabling simultaneous charging for multiple large-capacity electric buses while minimising power strain and downtime.

Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said that the goal is not just to add electric buses, but to create a sustainable transport ecosystem that can serve Delhi for the next decade. With parallel upgrades underway at depots like Rajghat, Mundka, and Okhla, the city aims to ensure that every major corridor is covered by the e-bus network by 2026.

This initiative marks another solid stride toward Delhi’s broader green mobility vision, reducing urban air pollution, cutting fuel dependency, and making the capital a model for electric public transportation in India.
