Delta Electronics India ramps R&D as it strengthens high-voltage EV tech and local manufacturing

Delta Electronics India is rapidly expanding its research and development capabilities in India, especially in high-voltage power systems, electric-mobility components and manufacturing for EVs and charging infrastructure. Its flagship Bengaluru facility, a LEED Gold-certified campus spanning about 61,000 m², now employs around 385 engineers and is slated to grow to around 750 in the next three years.

Within this centre, the company has constructed extreme-environment test chambers (-40 °C to 125 °C), 33 kV test systems, and dedicated automotive power labs focused on onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and integrated powertrains for electric vehicles. These investments reflect its aim to deliver “design here, manufacture here” solutions for India and global markets.

In parallel, Delta is pushing its “local-for-local” strategy: about 70 % of design and manufacturing happens in India, strengthening the domestic supply-chain for power electronics and EV infrastructure. The company also aims to double its R&D engineer count (from ~400 to over 1,000) as part of this drive.

For the EV ecosystem, Delta’s push is significant. As EVs move from niche to mainstream in India, high-voltage components, reliable fast-chargers and localised engineering become key enablers. Delta’s manufacturing facility in Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu) is also being expanded to support rising demand from EV OEMs and infrastructure players.

Overall, Delta’s investment in R&D, localised manufacturing, and high-voltage EV components positions it as a strategic player in India’s electric mobility transition, not just as a supplier, but as an innovation hub for tomorrow’s power-electronics challenges.
