Hyundai Motor has outlined an ambitious electrification roadmap for the rest of the decade, with electric vehicles expected to make up 60% of its global sales by 2030. Out of its projected 5.55 million annual sales, the company aims for 3.3 million to be electrified models, driven by strong demand in North America, Europe, Korea and an increasingly important India market.

India features prominently in this plan. Hyundai will roll out its first EV designed specifically for Indian drivers, tapping into a localised supply chain to keep costs competitive. Its Pune multi-model export hub will play a key role, accounting for around 250,000 units out of the 1.2 million vehicles Hyundai plans to manufacture globally by 2030.

Hyundai’s global CEO José Muñoz described the company as well-placed to lead the industry’s transformation through “breakthrough electrification technologies, flexible manufacturing and strong dealer networks.” The automaker is investing heavily to expand production capacity worldwide, including new assembly units in Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, North Africa, and a major US facility targeting half a million units by 2028.

The company’s upcoming lineup will also expand beyond passenger cars. Hyundai plans to add 18 hybrid models, launch a mid-size pickup truck for North America, and grow its commercial EV portfolio. In Europe, the IONIQ 3 will target the mass market, while in China, locally produced electric SUVs and sedans will be available. Together, these moves aim to ensure that Hyundai offers a full spectrum of electrified mobility solutions across global markets.

For India, the launch of a locally developed EV signals more than just a product; it represents Hyundai’s long-term commitment to building an ecosystem that aligns with the government’s push for cleaner mobility and growing consumer demand. With localisation, scale, and a robust export base, Hyundai looks set to cement its role as a major player in India’s EV story.
