JSW Group to Launch Its Own EV Brand by 2027 with Help from China's Chery JSW e1753678154173

JSW Group is planning to launch its own brand of electric vehicles (EVs) by the year 2027, separate from its existing JV with MG. The company aims to begin production by 2027, leveraging technology and components supplied by China’s Chery. This move is intended to comply with India’s restrictions on Chinese capital in strategic sectors. While Chery supports component localization, JSW plans to develop core vehicle technology in-house with Indian tech partners like KPIT and LTIMindtree.

JSW Motors, its dedicated automotive arm is backed by a planned investment of around $2–3 billion over five years. The company is building a major manufacturing facility in Maharashtra targeting an annual capacity of 300,000 passenger EVs and 100,000 commercial EVs.

Collaborations with global partners from Italy, Germany, South Korea, and China are part of JSW’s strategy to blend international expertise with local strengths in supply chain and software.

This new EV brand will exist alongside the JSW MG Motor joint venture, where JSW is also increasing its stake as SAIC reduces investment. JSW aims to transition from partner to leader in India’s EV production and innovation.

By creating its own EV line with licensed tech and India-first manufacturing, JSW Group hopes to disrupt the market with homegrown innovation and reduce dependency on imports while aligning with the ‘Make in India’ vision.
